The majestic Eastern White Pine is the tallest of the pine species in North America with a rich history that played a crucial historical role in the colonial America, yet unknown to many. Trees 150 to 240 feet tall and trunks free of branches to heights of 80 feet or more were plentiful in the new world. The Royal Surveyors of King George I marked them with a blaze that became known as the King's Broad Arrow.

Lagniappe : Lagniappe?

Pronunciation:    lan-"yap

Origin :  American French, from American Spanish (la ñapa), chiefly used in Southern Louisiana & Mississippi

Noun, defined as:  1. Something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure. 2. the equivalent of the thirteenth roll in a "baker's dozen", something thrown in unexpectedly. 3.  A small gift presented to a valued customer following a purchase.
 
As the word suggests, this section of the website is an offering of useful tools that may be of benefit to visitors or extra information you would not expect to see or learn about.  For example, to find out the name of the NELMA President's favorite college sports team (2007 SEC Western Division Basketball Champs...2007 College Baseball World Series....2007 Liberty Bowl Champs...2008 SEC Western Division Basketball Champs!)........that's certainly Lagniappe!
